Lent

I'm a bit startled that we've already entered the Lenten season.  I feel like Christmas was just a few days ago and we've barely begun the new year.  But that's not really the case, is it??


Yesterday as I was walking the streets of DC, I was struck by the communion I felt with perfect strangers.  People walked around all day in suits, or running gear bearing the mark of the cross on their foreheads.  These people are Christians, just as I am.  I have to admit that I felt guilty more than once that I didn't make it to an Ash Wednesday church service.  I could say it was because I was too busy or had other things, but I simply didn't.  Even still, I was reminded over and over of the power of faith.  This faith that I carry and share with others.  It is an amazing thing.


In the past, I've "given up" things for Lent.  Soda and chocolate and I'm sure other things (a few that I remember but care not to explain to the world).  I've also gained things for Lent, like "adding" a daily devotional time in the mornings or evenings.  I feel like "adding" or "giving up" things doesn't necessarily encourage me to follow through and really reflect on how these changes can give God room to grow me.  So, I like to make commitments.

This year, I'm making two.

I am committing to stop using Facebook.  And People.com.  And all of the other websites where I find myself both wasting time and focusing on unimportant things.  Don't get me wrong, FB can be a great way to reconnect and build relationships with people.  But it can also draw out feelings of jealousy and frustration and greed and about a billion other things, at least it has been known to in my life.  I am choosing to focus on building relationships with people in a different way over these next few weeks.

I am also committing to reading my Bible every morning and attending a ladies fellowship every other Thursday with some wonderful women from school.  I've been much better these last few months about setting aside time for my relationship with God, but it's certainly not what I know it can be.  I've got a lot of growing and learning to do.

SO!  I'm really looking forward to this season and I hope you are too!  Are you making any commitments for Lent?  I'd love to hear about them and encourage you.

Prayers Appreciated

We may have found our new home.  Prayers MUCH appreciated during this crazy and stressful time.

But we know that it will all work out as it should.

Obviously two posts in 30 minutes is appropriate as I really have a lot of other work to do.  So, I'll keep it short and just say that My Friend Kiki and her wonderful husband's house is the whole reason I want to be a home owner.  And I want to own a home JUSTLIKE theirs.  In fact, we're mostly only looking at townhouses.  Hubster and I keep finding ourselves saying things like "Oh that reminds me of the Mr. & Mrs. S house" or "Ugh, I like how xxxx is in Mr. & Mrs. S's house better."

And as Mrs. S would say, luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh dat!  K, bye for real now!

LOVE!

We're not huge V-day celebrators in this house.  It's a lovely day to show others that you care, but I think that we should be doing that every day.  Plus I kind of despise Hallmark.  Though I did receive the BEST Valentine's Day card from Auntie P.  She's the best, so thoughtful and non-Hallmark sentimental. Love her.  

We have had a lovely love weekend!  Friday night we watched the Opening Ceremonies with our Navy crew.  Here's Hubster with Lou and Baby Marina.  Though it doesn't look like it here, she LOVES these boys.  It's inexplicable, I know, as Lou is a Yankee's fan.

On Saturday we went to the most romantic place on EARTH.

Someone may be playing his 5,327 hour of Mario Brothers as I type.  Or maybe not.  I have to admit that it is the BEST Wii game we have.  There is nothing like old-school Mario and Luigi.

Before his first round with the new Wii game on Saturday, we headed to some great hills nearby where Hubster did a little snowboarding and Wrendog did a LOT of chasing.  Turns out our pup should probably be in the Winter Olympics for how much he loves snow.

So, that's what we've been up to.  I'm going to get some school work done because tomorrow will be spent HOUSE HUNTING!! I hope round 2 goes better than round 1 did, but either way it will all work out.  

Oh, and look for the applesauce bread recipe and video, coming to this very blog in the very near future.

It just means I am weak (but also fantastic for letting you have 2 slices, right???).
