You Matter

The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,
Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts.
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother.
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
"So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,

"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.

To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,

To stand your own watch, no matter how long.

For when we come home, either standing or dead,

To know you remember we fought and we bled.

Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,

That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."

Call me Crazy...

So, it's been a hectic day (...week, month...whatever). But listening to this song keeps me grounded and reminds me where my real rewards will be found. I hope you enjoy this song too and that it might speak to you.

Crazy
by Mercy Me

Why I would I spend my life longing for the day that it would end..
Why would I spend my time pointing to another man..
Isn't that crazy

How can I find hope in dying, with promises unseen..
How can I learn your way is better
In everything I'm taught to be..
Isn't that crazy

I have not been called to the wisdom of this world..
But to a God who's calling out to me..
And even though the world may think
I'm losing touch with reality
It would be crazy
To choose this world over eternity

And if I boast let me boast
Of filthy rags made clean
And if I glory let me glory
In my Savior's suffering
Isn't that crazy

And as I live this daily life
I trust you for everything
And I will only take a step
When I feel You leading me
Isn't that crazy

I have not been called to the wisdom of this world..
But to a God who is calling out to me..
And even though the world my think
I'm losing touch with reality
It would be crazy
To choose this world over eternity

Call me crazy
You can call me crazy
Call me crazy

I have not been called to the wisdom of this world..
But to a God who is calling out to me..
And even though the world may think that
I'm losing touch with reality
It would be crazy, It would be crazy, It would be crazy
To choose this world over eternity

Isn't That crazy..
Call me crazy
You can call me crazy
Call me crazy

p.s.

Erin was mostly right about the dress in my post a few days ago...

I bought it for sophomore prom, but wore it again for her wedding. :) I was SO flippin' excited that it still fits. Though I do have to rock the spanx now. I certainly didn't need those when I was 15!

E, your $20 in Monopoly money will be delivered to you the next time I see you. xo!

Things I Love Thursday

I'm totally stealing this theme-day idea from one of my favorite bloggers, Gala Darling. I thoroughly enjoy visiting her blog every Thursday to hear about the things she loooooves. :) So, it's my turn!

I LOVE...

- Pudding. Particularly vanilla flavored. I've been making my own at home with the Jell-O sugar free, fat free box mix. It's sooooo yummy. And chock-full of calcium! I'm eating some now. :)

- The smell of Thanksgiving. Turkey. Pumpkin pie. Spices. All of it. In all honesty I may love the smells even more than the tastes. Well, with the exception of pumpkin pie, of course. :)

- !!!!!!s and :)s Clearly. I'm an addict who has at least admitted. That's always the first step, yes?

- Summer flowers and my wedding band. But more importantly that they remind me of Hubster and my wonderful family.

- YOU!!! Really, I think you all are amazing. :) (ah! There I go again...)

What do you love??

Happy Birthday Mom and DOU!!!

To the BEST Mom in the World,

I hope your day is sunny.

Happy Birthday. I Love You!!!!!

And to My DOU:

Manic Monday

Fortunately for those of us connected to the glorious Internet, manic is a good thing because of Web sites like this one: MyLifeIsAverage

Today's favorite? Just for you...

(From: http://www.teenhut.net/cafe/78328-loneliness-2.html)

Today was my first day at my new school. When I got to one of my new classes, my teacher went "Class, we have a new student." The whole class went "Shark bait ooo ha ha!" exactly like they did in Finding Nemo. I think I'm gonna like this new school. MLIA.

Aahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

Conflicted

I need your help. And prayers.

I'm conflicted. Actually, I'm CONFLICTED. Ugh.

So, in just about a month, we'll find out what's next for us with the U.S. Navy. Although I wasn't always so enthusiastic, I am looking forward to the adventures of being a military family. But it certainly does make some things difficult. For instance jobs and school. I will definitely be in school until December 2010 (boo) but the job is not so definite. I don't love it. And it's getting harder and harder to go.

And in the spring, it will be REALLY difficult to find time in my schedule for work with school and my internship already taking up so much time.

So, without getting into the nitty gritty details, there are a few options on the plate and many decisions to make. All of these will probably include sacrifice and difficult discussions that I just don't want to have. I'm hoping that you (three?) will be thinking about us and, if you are so inclined, that you'll pray for clarity in what I am supposed to do next.

I'm thankful that this life has taken me on the amazing journey I've already experienced. I'm sure the next chapter will be just as wonderful. It's just getting there!

Thanks y'all!

Bride Wars!

Not wars so much but I did to go to...um...8 weddings this year? 9? Crap, I can't remember. A lot. And we had such a good time at all of them. :)

Here are a few pictures of some of those beautiful brides.

Mr. and Mrs. Sievers are better than professional!

Mrs. Miner was radiant! She's an accomplished physicist and now, wedding planner.

Mrs. Challen (woot!) would never let such an important day go by without a little MJ.

Mrs. Schambach is NOT with Mr. Schambach! What happened to the groom?!

Mrs. Stine here with all of the successful med school couples. It was not always an easy four years, but we made it!

Aren't my friends gorgeous?????? Yeah, thought so. ;)

It's My Life!

I'm hunting down better pictures from Halloween, but here is proof that we dressed up:

Hubster was a doctor (biiiiiiiggggg stretch there) and I was his pager. Ha! Hahahaha. No, really. It was funny. :) Oh, and we were handcuffed. And I beeped and I had three different party-themed messages. Get it? He's always attached to his pager? That makes me crazy? Get it? No? Well, I was pretty darn proud of this costume. The execution wasn't perfect, but I still giggle to myself about the idea. :)

Here are a few other pictures of recent events. The brother-in-law is involved in a charity called Canasta and this is us on our way to the yearly dinner and auction event. Hubster was post-call (I think he had been up for about 32 hours at this point!) but we still had a blast. $10 (possibly in Monopoly money) to anyone who can guess how long I've had that dress...and $10 more if you know what I originally bought it for!

Aaaaaaaand...the crazy man. Well, he and his 2-legged dad go back and forth for who the craziest boy in our house is on a daily basis. He LOVED this toy. Unfortunately, I think it is now dead. He likes to pull his toys apart.

Whew! I'm Back!

Let's pretend I've not been delinquent, shall we?

Great!

So, life's been hectic. With school, work, TAing, the pup, Hubster and everyoneunderthesun getting married, I feel like the last 2 months have flown. It's been good (with a smattering of holy cow how will I do all of this!) but I'm really looking forward to a bit of relative calm before...well, before whatever it is that comes next.

Some of you may know that the month of October was designated "No-Buy Month" in our house. I probably should have come up with a more descriptive name. Or at least a clever one.
But NBM it is. I've actually decided to make it 4 weeks so we can enjoy Halloween. And by enjoy I mean I came up with the PERFECT costume and I'll have to buy a few (but really not many) things. I'm not giving up the goods yet. Not telling you (all?) is my own personal way of forcing myself to post pictures in a week.

Anyway. Back to NBM. Obviously we need food, so we can do that within reason. Reason meaning not eating out or buying non-essentials at the grocery store. This part has been going well largely because of the time issues. I haven't had much time to cook so most of the time, Hubster is perfectly happy with the 735,322 cans of tuna in our house. Also, things like gas and metro fare are okay since I couldn't quit work or drop out of school this month. Although maybe if we do this again next year...

My transgressions are as follows:
  • $2.50 buying Advil at the Smithsonian for DOUncle
  • $8.25 ($3.00 after return) at Walmart - gloves, stockings, gum for Laurel's wedding (gloves were necessary, gum was not and the stockings are actually being returned)
  • Chipotle dinner ~$15-20 - J.Mallory came over, we had no food in the house, I was EXHAUSTED...so Hubster bought us burrito babies.
  • ~$55 was part of the hotel room (and bachelorette gift) for the lovely Mrs. Miner
  • $A LOT for dinner with our neighbors. But it was 4 of us. And it was part of their wedding present/thanks for walking our dog sometimes/thanks for not hating us when our dog peed on your carpet, again, Dinner.
  • $5.00 yesterday (aka: dayfromhellllllll) on muffin, banana, CLIF bar at school. This was certainly the most avoidable, but I was just at the end of my rope.

Upcoming transgressions:

  • $35 x 2 for the Mackler charity 5K this coming Sunday (check it out: www.ScottMackler5k.com).
  • $ for a lady's undergarmet. Doof the Dog decided that my bra was the perfect chew-toy and I need it for tomorrow's wedding. Not thrilled about this.

So, all in all, I think we have done pretty darn well. We made lunches and dinners (well, Diego didn't always, but this was more my challenge than his anyway). Brewed coffee at home. Didn't buy that random scone at the bakery. Didn't run out to get those gloves/pashminas/shoes I've been coveting.

With just under a week left to go, I think this has been an absolutely fabulous experience. It has really reminded me that I don't need to throw away money. We are fortunate to have enough to cover our needs and I know that in the future I will stop and ask myself if what I'm getting ready to buy is actually a need. Or even a strong want. Usually the answer is no.

But I am still going to get that pashmina. :) I won't deprive myself of everything.

p.s. The Blogger spell-check is kind of dumb. Just sayin'.

In Response

Thanks for the comments on my last blog. Though I peruse Google and the Internets for crockpot recipes, I mainly visit Crockpot365 (thanks to Jenna and Kiki who both pointed me in this direction). You should DEFINITELY check it out.

And, because it's Friday...
If Hubster weren't allergic to (and in HATE with) cats, THIS is the cat we would have.
Clearly.

Slowly Cooking. Cookin' Slow.

When I was young, I remember mom using the Crockpot at least once a week (or maybe my memory is deluded by...well, who knows what). I know she used it though. And - with the exception of hash and tomatos - I liked nearly everything my mom cooked.

Yesterday I made my first out-of-the-house-crockpot-on-all-day meal. Well, main course at least. I'm sure lots of you have heard about this blog. I luuuuuuvh it. I made this chicken recipe and it was FREAKIN' TASTY. Add in a little rice and brocollini (have you tried that yet? also fantastic). Badah Bing! Dinner. :)

The only downside was that Hubster didn't get home until 8:15 and I was starving by about 7:45. So I ate all by my lonesome. Well, with Wrendog...but he's not allowed near the table when we're eating.

Oh, and I must confess. I left work early because I was so nervous about having a cooking appliance on at home while I was gone. But I won't be such a nut-case next time. Promise.

Gabu, I know that you've busted out the crockpot...anyone else out there love theirs? What is your favorite recipe?

However I just couldn't seem to get into the movie(s).

Until now.

Raise your hand if you knew that Robert Pattison was in the Harry Potter series...Yeah, until 5 minutes ago my hand wasn't up either.

WOOOO FREAKIN' WHO!!  I have always luuuuuuved Cedric.  sigh.

Summer Reading

I need your help!  My DOU (dear old uncle, for those of you not in the loop) gifted us a Kindle as a wedding/anniversary present and I need book suggestions!  I'm really looking forward to so many reading options on the metro, by the pool, and for all the travel I'll be doing this summer and fall.

SO!  Please leave reading suggestions in the comments.  They can be old or new titles.  Popular or obscure.  I just need direction.

Now, off to write this paper so I'll be able to read for enjoyment when I'm done!

True to form...

I hope you all are still bearing with me.  (Raaaandom aside: Quick Grammar Lesson

I'm currently (well, was just moments ago and will be again in a hot second) writing about guns.  And homicide in Baltimore. And the policies and public health factors tied up in the issue.  And it is MESSY.  In so many ways.

So, I'm just throwing this out there...

if you have any happy-go-lucky stories or quotes or Internet sites or pictures or, well, anything, they would be GREATLY appreciated.

Just FYI, I'm completely enthralled with my studies (though I often think there is not enough coffee in the world to get me to Thursday), and even when researching the grimmest of topics and juggling like I haven't juggled in years, I know I'm where I'm supposed to be.

p.s. Why did spell-checker just highlight "internet"???   Oooooh, it wants to capitalize.  Ok.

But TODAY is the real welcome!  I have my ID and TriCare benefits.

WOOOOOOOT!!!! :)

Lost but not Forgotten

  • We've been back from Argentina for nearly 4 weeks. Can you believe it?
  • Me neither.
  • And these 4 weeks sure have been a whirlwind.
  • After a ridiculously long 24 hours of travel, we get back to our messy 1/3 of the way packed apartment.
  • Hubster spent the week celebrating his 4 years of medical school education. I went to work.
  • Friday May 15th, I became a Lieutenant's wife. With the help of some ducttape. (SP?)

  • The 17th I also became a Doctor's wife. Cha-ching. Haha. Not.

  • Then the 18th I returned to the life of a working grad student. For those of you who don't know, I'm at GWU getting my Master Public Health and I'm loving it. My schedule is absolutely crazy busy with work and classes and studying etc. etc. etc. BUT it's a pretty incredible feeling to know that what I'm doing every day is what I love.
Whew.
  • Then we (more Hubster) moved. And drama with old furniture and new furniture ensued (read: is still going on). And I got rid of stuff. LOTS of stuff. Old dressers, clothes, shoes, drinking glasses. You name it, I got rid of it.
SIDE NOTE: I am a converted pack-rat and would rather get rid of almost everything I own than cram it into some (non-existent in our new apartment) closet.
  • And, OF COURSE, the really big news. :) We adopted a puppy. Named Wren (Sir Christopher Wren Fufu, if you must know). He's a border collie mutt and stinkin' cute. And sweet. AND house trained. Man, if only I could pre-order kids that were house trained! (One day people, don't freak out on me yet.)

So, that brings us to today. We've been back almost as long as we were out of the country. I'm half-way through 2 of my 4 summer classes. A Bio exam yesterday kicked one butt-cheek and a Policy paper due next Tuesday is sure to kick the other. But I'm heading to Raleigh for a bachelorette party in a few short hours and getting to see my girls sure does help keep all this craziness in perspective.
And thus, the entropy continues.

FYI, to all of you wonderful readers who commented on my blog while we were away, I'm sending out little thank you prizes on Monday! I've been totally delinquent and awful, but did want to fulfill my promise. Thanks for reading!

Final Bus Trip

We’re heading back to BsAs.  Full of Manolo food and lots of family love.  And bittersweet emotions.  This trip has been such a wonderful experience.  I’m always baffled at how quickly time passes, especially on an adventure like the one we’ve had.

I’m going to miss so much about Argentina and our time here.  But I’m also looking forward to getting back to a semi-consistent schedule and lots of exciting changes (new apartment, starting school, Diego graduating…).  C’est la vie, si?  Eso es vida, oui?

Math - Idioma sin Palabras

Lucia (or Lu for short), Silvana’s daughter, is a smarty.  She’s nearly 11, in 5th grade and is a math W-I-Z.  Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever met a kid who picked up math and really understood it so quickly.  Her brain just works that way.  Well, when we first arrived, Lu really wanted to learn algebra.  So, with my elementary Spanish vocabulary – especially when it comes to math terms – I sat down with her.  We discussed how the variable is a place holder and how to balance equations.  Then came negative numbers.  Then came multi-step algebra equations.

48 + 3a = 73

Easier than cake.

127 – 4a = -13 – 6a

HA.

I could go on.  This may seem like nothing for some of you 25 year old PhD holders, but for most of us, we didn't really learn (geez, let alone understand) algebra until we were in like 8th, or 9th grade at least.  And the coolest part is (dorky teacher moment in 3…2…1…), she gets it.  Better than any kid I’ve ever worked with – teaching, tutoring, whatever – she can explain the WHYs of manipulating equations.  Most adults I know can’t do that.  It’s impressive.

In fact, she’s going to be in the regional (and then hopefully national!) Math Olympics.  Woot!

So, all this to say that there are some smaaaaarties in this family, but also that it was fantastic to be able to help Lu do something she loves (learning math) while I was able to do something I love (teaching) too.  And, of course, all the while learning a few new vocabulary words.  Lu was very patient with me.  J

Sin Agua

I love water.  Rivers, lakes, oceans, whatever.  And – beside Iguazu – it’s been awhile since I’ve been able to enjoy some time by the water.  Monday morning, Hubster and I left Buenos Aires for our last mini-trip, to Mar del Plata.

We always stay in Tios’ apartment which overlooks the ocean.  It’s fantastic.  It’s close to all the good restaurants, beaches, and family.  However, this time, we’re without water.  So close to so much water, and yet we can’t shower or wash dishes.  Hmm…

Something happened with the water system in Mar del Plata and a huge part of the city has been without water for days.  Lots of schools are closed, many restaurants aren’t opening and it’s generally a bit of a pain.  But life goes on.  We have water to drink and brush teeth.  And now that I’m married, I don’t really need to shower and smell all pretty do I?  Who am I trying to impress?  J

Actually, I did get some help washing my hair from my beloved.  It was HILARIOUS.  First of all, I think all guys should go to cosmetology (right?) school to learn how to wash a lady’s hair.  What a treat that would be…if only I could also have that oh-so-convenient hair washing sink in my house too.  Since we were at Tios’ and not a salon, the tub and toilet seat had to suffice.  Needless (I think) to say, it was not the most comfortable hair washing experience, but I am the proud wife of a husband that is adept at using minuscule amounts of available water to wash my massive amounts of hair.  Well, not SO massive, but definitely SO dirty.

What a treat a real shower is going to be…

Nuestra Familia

I am beyond blessed to have been born into such a great family.  Momma, Brub, DOU...you all know who you are.  I love the family that God gave me more than 25 years ago.  And I love the one that He has given me more recently.

Being here has meant a lot less time talking with (not that I was near) my family.  But a whole lot more time getting to know the "new" half of my family.

Today was Abuela's 101st birthday!!! Yep!  101 people.  Before we went to her house in BsAs, we headed to Hubster's cousin's for his (and his wife's) birthday party.  Apparently the first 3 days in May are a popular time to have a birthday.  Javier and Pilar are AMAZING.  Seriously, I love these two and they have three of the most gorgeous girls in the whole world.

We enjoyed loads of beef - that I ate after swearing off food 2 nights ago; cake; running around with 5 young, adorable girls; and chit chats with cousins/second cousins/aunts/random people who aren't in any way related to me or my husband.  After all of that, we went to Abuela Luisa's to wish her a very Happy Birthday!  It's always a little difficult when she is around more than 2 or 3 people as she gets a little confused...but really, she's 101!  She was all dressed up and lovely.

Today, sitting at Abuela's table, surrounded by family, holding Abuela's hand, with Laura relaxing on my lap has to be one of my favorite memories from this trip.

*********************************************

When I first met the Argentine contingent of Hubster's family 3 years ago - when I was first here in 2006 - I felt awkward, shy, and a bit out of place.  My family is pretty small.  There aren't tons of cousins or any young kids.  But that's pretty much the opposite of the new fam.  Here, everything is loud and boisterous and a little crazy (though that's really not different from my side of the family).  And I like it.

I like that I'm welcomed and talked to (even with my bad Spanish).  I like that I now have 2 nieces and 2 nephews and about a billion other family members.  I like that Lu and Lau are so stinkin' cute and cuddly.  I like that we eat.  A bunch.  But more than anything, I like that this family is mine now, too.

Oh, and I LOVE the my "old" family and my "new" family get along so well.  Momma loved Argentina and everyone here loved her.  Tios ask about when Scott (my DOU) and Brub are coming down for a visit.

We're just one big, happy (slightly dysfunctional, sometimes very neurotic) family.  :)

So, here's what I spent the afternoon doing:

Why NO!, I don't need to go to the gym! I spent the afternoon weight-lifting...and man were they cute weights!  Gold's has competition.

I'm with Milagros (L, Javier & Pilar's daughter) and Laura (Sil's daughter/Dieg's goddaughter).  And of course that's Lucia in the background...we had a blast on the swingset!

And here's what we did this evening:

(L-R):  Tio Roberto, Guillermo (el esposo de Maria Claudia), Tio Goni, Maria Claudia, y yo.  We were looking at this really old photo album of the fam.  There were even pictures from Abuelo's (Luisa y Enrique) wedding about 80 years ago!

So, in short, I'm thankful.  And I lub my family.  :)

p.s. THANK YOU for comments everyone.  Heather, you've especially been a rockstar.  And seeeeeester, of course.  :)  It feels great to know that although I'm not well-read, I make a few people smile.  X's & O's to you all!

No More Fooooood

It's Friday night.  10:18 pm.  I am never eating again.  Ugh.  I LOVE the food in this country but I'm pretty sure that I will literally explode if I put another bite of food in my mouth.

So, I'll just have to go out and have a glass (or 4) of wine.  Wish me luck!

The Last of Cordoba & Iguazu

The last night in Cordoba, the directors of the medical student exchange program took us all out to dinner.  Unfortunately, the tango show that we were expecting didn't happen...but a super tasty meal did!  See, I told you I'd talk about food in every post.

L to R: Dieg, Me, Kelly, Dan, Dr. Villafani, Mark, Dr. SomeoneIdon'tKnow

In Cordoba, I took one-on-one Spanish classes for 2 hours a day with Nora.  She's AWESOME!  (Hi Nora!  I hope you're doing well!)

When we headed to Iguazu Park, the boys (below: Dan O., Hubster, Byron) had to be a little silly.  FYI, for those of you who don't know, Dan is a friend of ours from W&M.  He was traveling with Julia, also a W&M grad (have I told you all this yet??).  Julia worked with Byron.  Byron's girlfriend is Hanna.

And that's how we became the (Brady) Iguazu Bunch!

Notice those REALLLLLYYYY hot socks on my man.  I win! ;)

One of the waterfalls.  Amazing.  And this is the dry season.

Here we are waiting for the boat to the island.  Byron really does fit right in!

Monos!!!  Hubster, Julia and I returned Monday morning to check out the falls again and do one of the longer hikes we didn't get to on Sunday.  And we found the REAL Vicente family in Argentina.

Here's Julia at La Garganta del Diablo.  Really, the most amazing thing ever.  E-V-E-R.  (Sorry I like caps lock so much.  Just imagine how I'd say it in real life.)

Foooootooooooos

These are old at this point, but still great!

On Tuesday, April 14th, Mom and I headed to Colonia, Uruguay via the Buquebus boat.  As we were heading out of the port, the GreenPeace ship was coming in.

One of the many dogs that befriended us in South America.  This friendly guy, on a beach in Uruguay almost went home in Mom's suitcase.

Colonia is GORGEOUS.

Mom found the perfect car for her!!  It's about half the size of a Mini.

Looking out from the lighthouse, toward BsAs...Mom's even in the photo (tiiiiiiiny white spec over my right shoulder).

Before we left on Wednesday evening, we decided to spend an hour or two having coffee and reading.  It was idyllic.

Until this bird joined us...

And did this to Mom's book...

On the way back to Argentina.  We had a fantastic time, thanks Uruguay.

Thursday, the 16th, Mom and I took a city tour of BsAs in the morning.  Nothing is more typically BsAs than dog walkers!

And La Casa Rosada (Pink House).  Here's where La Presidenta works.

Then Thursday afternoon we went to the zooooooooo.  This bear was CLEARLY all about entertaining the tourists.  He was chillin'.

Chillaxin' seemed to be the theme for the day.  Her Lioness is enjoying the sun.

Tio warned me about getting to close to the monkey cage..."Cuidado Sari a las jaulas de los monos.  Cuidado!"

It was perfect weather for a stroll around the zoo.  Unfortunately, the animals don't seem to be well cared for.  There is nearly never enough water for them and their enclosures are tiny.  With the exception of the rodents that wander around the whole zoo, of course.

Friday morning we wandered through the newly renovated Rose Garden.

Then lunch was noquis at Abuela's casa.  MMMMMMMM!!

Then tea at the Salemme's (Sil's in-law's) gorgeous apartment in BsAs.

Friday night, Hubster and I took the Moms out to a tango show and dinner at Cafe Tortoni, the oldest cafe in BsAs.  Apparently it's famous as the place where all the politicos and academics would go to have coffee and talk about brilliant things.

Us, at the tango show.

Saturday, April 18th, before lunch we drove past the Obelisque in the center of the city.  Hubster is quite the artisto.

Y, finalmente, El Puente de las Mujeres in Puerto Madero (the bridge of the women), right near where Momma had her last Argentina lunch.  Steak, of course.

That's all folks!  At least for now.  I'm sorry I'm not adding better stories, but I wanted to be sure to get pics up.  There are more on the way and stories too!  But mainly I'll be working on enjoying my last 12 days in Argentina and plotting ways to get "stuck" here.  ;)  Just kidding Mom.  Ciao!
